You may have heard by now that the Court has thrown out the case that John Fallon, former president of EMU, brought against the university. Here's hoping we have turned the corner.

I am certain that by now you all know that EMU has a new president. Her name is Dr. Susan Martin and she begins the job officially on July 7th. What have you heard about her and how do think she will perform in this role? Any suggestions you might have for her might also be listed here and I will bring them to her attention. Or if you like, you may contact her yourself.

I thought Dr. Martin was very informative at our last meeting on 10/23. She seems to be very busy, and she also seems to be doing a great job of presenting Eastern in a positive light. Like you said, I hope she doesn't get worn out.

I hope you had a chance to examine some of the things one can do with this wiki. Now, your comments on how we might use it would be useful.

I think it will be a most useful means for staying in contact, as Tom has indicated, and for getting a dialogue going about important topics.

I am keeping active in politics and trying to help Obama get elected. The class I am preparing to teach for Elderwise is called "How to reach maturity". Trips this year include Mexico, San Francisco, and Traaverse City. The Ann Arbor-Ypsilanti area is a great place for retirement. because of all of the cultural and educational opportunities

Like Tom and Bert, I keep busy. In politics. John Edwards dropped out, Hillary failed to get the nomination, so we must work for Obama and equally, or more, for a Democratic Congress. I play basketball twice a week with the Michigan Pacemakers, work out in a gym twice a week, travel (most recently on the last voyage of the QE2 from Manhatttan to Australia), lecture (this year in Australia, last year in China), write, enjoy children and grandchildren, go to class reunions, and spend a lot of time fussing with doctors and trying not to remember my age.

This wiki is an effort to create a viable forum for emeritus faculty of Eastern Michigan University. Perhaps this medium can be of value in helping us keep in touch with our colleagues.
Please respond to this thread by telling us who you are and your affiliation with EMU.
